Live by Every Word: No Room for Half-Truths

The devil is intentional about sending you to hell.
Do whatever it takes to please God in any situation.
Do what Jesus would have done if He were physically present here.

Remember what Jesus said:

John 12:48He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

His very word will be used to judge you; His words will be the standard of your judgment.
What this means is that we have to go by every single thing He said.

Jesus also said in:

Matthew 4:4But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”

Every word means every word—not half or 99.9%.
This means the word of God concerning any subject should be taken in its totality—not just the parts that suit us. It should be 100%.

The Danger of Half-Truths

For instance, 1 John 1:9 says:

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If you only read this verse without considering others on the topic of forgiveness, you may fall into a loop of sinning.
That mindset says: “If I sin today and confess, God will forgive me. And even if I sin again right after, He’ll still forgive me—because that’s what His word says.”
So, you repeat the sin and ask for forgiveness, believing He will definitely forgive.

But this is wrong.

Hebrews 10:26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

Wow. I thought 1 John 1:9 said we can confess and be forgiven?
Do you now see what happens when you don’t take every word concerning a subject?

According to Hebrews 10:26, if we willfully keep sinning, there is no more forgiveness—only judgment and the consuming fire of God.

A misunderstanding of 1 John 1:9 could lead you to the lake of fire because you failed to follow every word of God.

Hebrews 10:26–29 (Continued)

If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left… Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

Even though God will forgive confessed sin, there is no sacrifice or forgiveness for anyone who deliberately continues to sin.

Confession means you recognize what you did is sin—that you have the knowledge of the truth.
Someone without the truth won’t even ask for forgiveness.

So, asking for forgiveness means you’re saying, “I won’t do this again.”
If you keep repeating the same sin, that’s an insult to the Spirit of grace—that means you’ve trampled the Son of God underfoot.
What’s left for you is the lake of fire.

Another Verse on Sin and Forgiveness

1 John 3:9Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

If someone who is born again does not and cannot sin, then what happens to those who do sin even after claiming to be born again?

Are they truly born again?
Is His seed really in them?

The Bible is God’s word. God is not a liar—whatever He says is true and remains so for eternity.

If someone born of God cannot sin, then who are the ones asking for forgiveness over and over again?

My dear, live by every word—not just some.
Half-truth is deadly. It can lead you to hell.
Take the Bible in its entirety.

The devil won’t tempt you with something outside the Bible. He uses half-truths from within.
He used Scripture to tempt Jesus—but it was partial truth.
Jesus defeated him by quoting the whole truth.

No Loopholes in God’s Word

There are no loopholes when it comes to the Word of God.
His words must be taken in their entirety.

Don’t make room for half-truths.
Don’t twist the Bible to fit your sinful lifestyle.
Let the Bible transform you to conform to God’s standards.

Face every subject with the full counsel of God’s Word.

For instance, our righteousness and holiness is in Christ.
We are not holy or righteous by our own works, but through Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:30It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.

Even though our righteousness is in Christ, and through faith in Him we have eternal life, that does not mean we can live anyhow.

Jesus Himself said:

Matthew 5:20For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

So yes—

  • Salvation is free
  • Eternal life is free
  • Righteousness is free
  • Holiness is free

They are all gifts from God, and you receive them through faith in Jesus.
But that doesn’t mean living carelessly is acceptable.
There are no loopholes in God’s Word. It is complete and must be taken in full.

Understanding “Ask and Receive”

Matthew 7:7Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Really? So I just ask and I receive—anything at all?

Look further:

Matthew 21:22And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

Still not enough:

1 John 3:22And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

Now we see the full picture:

  1. Ask and you’ll receive
  2. Ask in prayer, believing
  3. Keep His commandments and please Him

Now look at this:

1 John 5:14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

If what we’re asking isn’t according to His will, He won’t even hear it.
And that’s before we even get to the “receiving” part.

So yes:

  • You must ask
  • You must believe
  • You must obey
  • Your request must align with His will

Still not done?

Are You Asking in the Right Name?

You must ask in His name.
But to do that, you must abide in Him.

John 14:13And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 15:7If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.

Wait—there’s more.

Are you asking with pure motives?

James 4:3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Final Thoughts

Live by every word of God.
Leave no room for the devil to deceive you with half-truths.

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
